Holding on to 'what I love'...

I was asked by a friend if I start and approach plein air differently from studio work. The answer is "Sometimes."
For this painting, "September Waters", I knew my light would hold for several hours, and my artistic intent was to record the subtle and sensitive shifts in color that saturated the scene and lent it the sublime quality that touched my soul when I chose this spot.
I approached it the same way as my studio painting: doing a 12-minute colored wash to capture the mood by tones and design alone, then working in and out along the focal path, comparing and relating each element, holding on to 'what I love' as best as I can throughout the process.
