I learned so much...

Here is a photo of the painting "Neighbors" - 90% en plein air.

I learned so much while painting this...particularly in orchestrating the placement of the cows to form an interesting focal path. More than three times I painted a cow in only to scrape her out and move her to a different location. While the random placement was what I saw in front of me it didn't contribute to the visual flow and the feeling I was after.

Grouping and overlapping them from the lower right hand corner to the upper left, along the fence line gently leads our eye back to the quiet homestead.
